WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

The increase in population during touristic seasons is changing Mediterranean cities. They are often unprepared and need to adapt to provide sustainable transit systems between city centres, ports and the neighbourhoods. However, cities also have to deal with the necessary preservation of their natural and cultural heritage, particularly in their historical centres. Projects co-financed under the Urban Transports thematic especially address issues related to the use and access to low carbon and multimodal transport systems for the different categories of population and territories. The Urban Transports community is coordinated by GO SUMP project, which acts as a bridge between projects and builds the community, through synergies and networking. This thematic community works towards the achievement of tailor-made sustainable urban mobility plans and solutions in the MED area.

WHAT RESULTS HAVE THEY OBTAINED ?

The URBAN TRANSPORTS is promoting a greener urban mobility planning in cities to reduce carbon emissions related to transport and improve the environment and the population’s quality of life. A dialogue between key stakeholders has been established. Thematic publications related to tourism and mobility have been issued this year.

WHAT DIGITAL TOOLS HAVE THAY CREATED?
All tools from this community

MedUrbanTools platform

Description:

The toolbox includes three types of categories: cases, voices and tools. Cases: best practices developed in Mediterranean cities Voices: video clips from experts from the region. Tools: a recompilation of existing materials developed in previous projects. Those will include: 1. Guidelines: thematic documents and plans. 2. Instruments: innovative responses to existing challenges.

Functionalities:

1. DATA FOR SMART TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT 2. SOFT MOBILITY 3. SHARED MOBILITY 4. MOBILITY IN TOURIST DESTINATIONS 5. NEW PLANNING APPROACHES

MOTIVATE e-platform/APP

Description:

The MOTIVATE platform, being among the core tangible outputs of the project, acts as a useful tool on the hands of city planners and transport engineers via which, the daunting task of data collection and views capturing will be facilitated.

Functionalities:

MOTIVATE project is promoting citizens' engagement in urban sustainable mobility planning; through the use of social media and crowdsourcing applications, citizens are asked to contribute in the decision making procedure by: providing data for their daily trips evaluating the performance of mobility measures and expressing their satisfaction assessing the usefulness of proposed/planned mobility interventions

Incircle Knowledge Platform

Description:

The INCIRCLE Knowledge Platform is an online tool that gives everyone the chance to become part of the circle and exchange already acquired knowledge, tools, methods and good practices in the field of circular economy applying to the tourism sector, ensuring further transferring and capitalization of existing knowledge in the sector. The INCIRCLE Knowledge Platform enhances the knowledge previously acquired in the field and ensures the availability, "circularity" and usability of this knowledge and a set of solutions collected and tested in the MED area.

Functionalities:

The platform aims at: - Collecting, cataloguing, promoting and sharing of tools, methods and best practices on the theme of circular tourism identified through project activities related to the different territories, with the aim of pooling problems and solutions by sharing models of reference that in other contexts have proved successful; - Promoting and sharing of "circularity" indicators developed within the project; - Ranking and subsequently benchmarking of policies and practices on the subject of circular tourism of project partners and external users of the programme area through a self-assessment tool; - Acting as an online repository for the collecion of solutions and outputs developed by INCIRCLE and other MED and Interreg projects active in the field of sustainability and of the principles of the circular economy applied to tourism.

TOOL FOR LOW CARBON MOBILITY SOLUTIONS

Description:

Map of key actors, best practices and pilot activities in the frame of Urban Transports Community of the Interreg MED programme. REMEDIO implements an Integrated Modelling Tool (IMT), jointly developed by the scientific partners, to support a transition for a low carbon mobility solution in the congested cities of the Mediterranean region.

Functionalities:

Geographic information system (GIS) map, which includes all the actors of the Interreg MED Urban Transports Community. 1. MED Urban Transports Community - Who Is Who Map 2. Urban Transport Projects (INTERREG MED) - Map Display 3. MED Urban Transports Community - Map Editing 4. MED Urban Transports Community - Add New Content The IMT is composed by eight individual modules that cover the main impacts of traffic on the city and its inhabitants and it provides to users (i.e. technician responsible for traffic management of the city) the possibility of analyse the main effects of traffics over congested roads in the current situation, as well as analysing the effects of apply potential soft-actions to mitigate the road-congestion problems.
